Prayer and Evangelism in 1824 [by Samy Mansour, 14/01/2005]
If prayer is the lifting up of our hearts to God, then evangelism is the sharing of God's heart with the lost.
I recently read a quote that summed up the importance and power of prayer in very simple terms; "when we rely upon organisation, we get what organisation can do; when we rely upon education, we get what education can do; when we rely upon eloquence, we get what eloquence can do. And so on. But when we rely upon prayer, we get what God can do". Undeniably, we all know that the evangelisation of the world depends first upon a revival of prayer: "deeper than the need for workers; deeper far than the need for money; deep down at the bottom of our spiritual lives, is the need for the forgotten secret of prevailing, worldwide prayer."
When it is put to us in such an uncomplicated way we are all reminded of the importance and need for prayer. But how disciplined are we in prayer? Our vision as 1824, is to be more purposeful in remembering and acting on this aspect of our
Christian walk. Our hope is that prayer would become an integral part of our lives and a foundational part of our group.
And how can you help? Well, a big part of that is praying for our group too! Its also important to keep us accountable - why not walk up to an 1824er and ask them how their prayer is going? (And be prepared for them to ask you the same too!)
